9 NATURAL SKINCARE BRANDS THAT I'M CRUSHING ON
Last week, I mentioned that the lovely owners of Elements Beauty Shop, Sherry & Jeanie, curated a box of samples based on my skincare needs. I am (newly) 29, with oily, acne-prone skin. As beach worshipper, I am trying to prevent the appearance of aging while protecting my sun damaged, uneven skin. I have been working hard for the past 8 years to achieve flawless skin, while the environment/diet/water intake all play a part, a majority of my success is from using effective skin care lines. Thanks to Elements of Carytown, I was so excited to try 9 new brands that I had never tried before! The best part of all is that these brands are organic, plant-based, and do not test on animals! Hooray for guilt-free shopping. Thanks Elements Beauty Shop!
Joanna Vargas Skin Care is a luxury skin care line, specializing in organic skin care products. This lightweight, daily serum is chock full of antioxidants and vitamins that are meant to brighten the skin. It is formulated with naturally derived ingredients including Galactoarabinan from the Larch tree, which is great for cell turnover. I love the floral, sweet smell of this serum. My skin was radiant after every use. This serum is best used on dry, cleansed skin. Apply a thin layer and let your skin glow!!!
Juara is an botanical-based skincare line, influenced by ancient Indonesian herbal traditions. Not only are they certified Cruelty-Free, their products are paraben-free, sulfate-free, and do not use harsh chemicals. Juara believes the key to beauty is about nurturing your mind AND body. The ultra sweet scent of the rice cleanser was almost a turn-off for me, but I couldn't deny it's cleansing power. Gentle & effective; it wiped away the days makeup in one wash. I have been on a turmeric kick lately and was so excited to see it as a main ingredient in the anti-aging serum. You can see little specks of black clove, in every pump! A little goes a long way! This combination helped to even out my skin tone while Goji Berry Peptides gave that firm appearance that I loved. I finished my regimen with the Sweet Black Tea (aka Kombucha) & Rice moisturizer. It is super-hydrating and nourishing, thanks to avocado butter. Overall, Juara is my favorite line that I sampled. It was important to try the whole system, so that I could experience all of its benefits. If you are looking for plant-based, anti-aging secrets, Juara is the answer.
Juice Beauty is certified organic AND cruelty-free. YAY! I was so stoked to try a few products from their Green Apple Collection. This line is pumped with alpha/beta hydroxy fruit acids, which is great for most skincare types. Sensitive or rosacea type skin should steer clear of this system and check out their Daily Collection. The cleansing gel is fantastic for those with sun damage (ahem, ME), due to its brightening qualities. The Age-Defy serum targets fine lines and wrinkles while making my skin feel smooth. I completed my Green Apple regimen with their Age-Defy moisturizer, which is made with organic juices and potent antioxidants for which made my skin glow. Juice Beauty also has makeup!!
Green Apple Age Defy Moisturizer
Kniepp is a body care company, specializing in holistic bathing products. I could not wait to try out this lavender herbal bath. I love taking baths. I don't do it as often as I would like because I sometimes feel guilty about the amount of water that I use, so I always make sure bath time is super special. I used this Balancing bath oil after I ran a 10k! It was Sunday night; I was exhausted, my body was sore, and I wanted to chill out. I filled the tub and serenity was waiting for me. I love lavender because it makes my body feel relaxed as well as my mind. A 20 minute soak was all I needed. This was a great way to reset for the week to come.
Lather is a holistic skin-care brand committed to cruelty-free beauty and sustaining the environment with natural ingredients. The Ultra Mild Face Wash is cleansing, but will not strip the skin of natural emollients. This brand was formulated for those who suffer from migraines. I remembered that when I used this face wash after having a caffeine headache all day. The botanical ingredients in this cleanser are definitely calming and soothing. Licorice root extract is also calming and the main ingredient for this lines only eye treatment. Combined with moisture binding hyaluronic acid, this treatment is excellent for anti-aging concerns. For mornings when I leave the house before Sunrise, this is perfect to soften my eye area.
MALIN + GOETZ
I mentioned that I had been crushing on Malin + Goetz and was ultra excited to try their line. M+G is an original apothecary, designed for those with sensitive skin. This is my favorite cleanser that I sampled simply because I love a foaming gel! The cleanser was great for makeup removal and rinsed away all residue, therefore I skipped toning. The Vitamin E moisturizer is oil-free and instantly absorbed into my skin. My skin felt like velvet!! For real! It is perfect to use as a primer or base before makeup application. Great as an after-shave, as well! The Replenishing serum works to boost moisture and can be used solo as a moisturizer for oily skin. I love products that serve a dual purpose!
I recently cut my hair and was happy to have the Sage Styling Cream on hand! It gave my hair shine and texture without the stiffness of a gel. Botanical sage didn't irritate my scalp or leave any residue in my hair. I added this to my damp hair and let it air dry; it's perfect for my on-the-go lifestyle.
Ren is a skin-care line that is 100% plant and mineral derived. They do not use synthetic ingredients. I've been dying to try this brand and was stoked to get a sample of their Invisible Pores Detox Mask. I loooovvveee a clay mask! Reducing the size of pores and blackheads is always a battle for me, especially on my nose! My favorite time to mask it up is after a sweaty workout. It is a nice treat for my face, after I've worked so hard. French clay drew out impurities and excess sebum while essential fatty acids from Red Tea softened imperfections on my skin. I'd like to say I'm a detox mask connoisseur and this has been my favorite mask yet!!
Somme Institute is a skin-care line known for discovering and developing Molecular Dispersion Technology 5 (MDT5). The benefits of MDT5 allow the skin to absorb full vitamins which aid in reducing the appearance of fine lines, reducing sun damage, while improving skin clarity and tone. Their packaging is so super sleek that I was confused as to what I was trying! I realized that I was sampling their Transport pads, Serum, and A-Bomb moisturizer. I love exfoliation pads! I'm addicted to that tingly sensation of my improved skin tone. I promptly used the Serum, which is highly concentrated with Vitamin C. My skin felt soft yet taut. The A-Bomb moisturizer is light-weight and full of Vitamins A & E. I think the combination of this entire system helped deter acne that was on the horizon for my chin. The best part of this line is that it quickly absorbs into the skin and the visible results are instant.
TokyoMilk is an eco-friendly, botanical-based bodycare line. I replenished my skin with Tokyomilk Dead Sexy No. 6 body lotion after taking my bath! This is the best way to restore your skins natural pH balance after a 15-20 minute soak. This lotion is uber-soothing and moisturizing. (I was given a sample of the body lotion, which is not listed on the site, but the hand cream is!) I love the delicate scents of white orchid and dandelion. DeadSexy is enriched with antioxidants from Japanese Green Tea. Infused with mimosa bark, this lotion is fabulous for soothing irritation and inflammation. TokyoMilk is gentle and fantastic for daily use.
